Taking the lead for democracy
Colleagues - at the core of our work is the fight to defend and develop democracy. We all reckognise the responsibility we have - both as teachers and as unionists to work for democracy based on facts, on knowledge, on the self-esteren from all present and future citizens to be part of a living democracy. To learn and know about democracy is not enough though. We need our students to learn from real life how democracy works - in democratic environments every day in schools. - where they experience that their opinions count - where they experience that their needs are met - where they see them selves and their teacher being counted in when decisions are made. In short - where they live democracy every day - So - colleagues! We are determined about this - and we want to do - a lot!! We decide to take action - or rather - we ask Executive board and the EI staff to take action. We ask the Executive Board to prepare a report on the state of democracy in the world today - that’s a huge task And during this congress, we have asked for web-pages and education materials and many other good things. I strongly support this resolution - but I think for future congress-decisions of action we should be less detailed - so that we dont make the daily work and prioritese too difficult for our executive board and staff.
